| In 1991Travis Philmlee, the President and founder of Americann Cannabis Collectives, was injured in an accident that changed his life forever. Travis was permanently disabled when his motorcycle struck a stopped pickup at over 75 miles per hour, shattering the left side of his body. At 21, he went from being an active member of the US Army Reserves to join the ranks of the unemployed. For over 15 years Travis took 2400 mg of ibuprofen each day, not knowing the damage this seemingly harmless over the counter drug was causing. Today, he suffers from multiple complications as a result of his long term ibuprofen use. These complications include:
As these symptoms began to appear, Travis had the opportunity to see numerous doctors. These physicians each expressed concern and amazement at the level and length of his ibuprofen use. Several recommended medical marijuana as a viable substitute for ibuprofen, but none were willing to provide a recommendation for marijuana. Finally, after weeks of gathering his old medical records and seeking out a qualified doctor, Travis obtained his medical marijuana recommendation and began using cannabis for pain. He found in marijuana a drug that helped stabilize his mood swings, reduce his anxiety and allow him to reduce his ibuprofen use by half. Today, he is an active proponent for medical marijuana, and has established Americann Cannabis Collectives to assist others like him in obtaining their much needed medicine throughout Northern California. While state law and the Attorney General are currently advocating protection for medical marijuana users, we are not completely safe until the federal government recognizes the validity and usefulness of medical marijuana, and repeals out dated drug war marijuana laws.
